Fairhope resident and Mobile area attorney Jay Robinson recently announced his candidacy for Fairhope City Council’s Place 2 seat.
Robinson was born in Mobile and has a finance degree from the University of South Alabama. He received his law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham in 2006. Jay is a partner at the law firm of Frazer, Greene, Upchurch & Baker in downtown Mobile.
“I feel like now is the right time and this is a great opportunity to give back and serve the community I love,” Robinson said.
Robinson and his wife Alex, have lived in Fairhope for nearly a decade. They have two boys, Jay Nick and Parks who were both born in Fairhope and attend Fairhope schools.
“I want to work to continue the high quality of life our citizens enjoy today while managing growth, work to see continued improvement of our already outstanding parks and recreation programs and work hand in hand with Fairhope businesses to keep our local economy thriving,” Robinson said.
For the last 10 years, Robinson has been an active volunteer in the Fairhope Community including Fairhope Youth Sports programs, coaching Fairhope baseball, soccer and basketball.
“The parks and recreation opportunities given to Fairhope citizens adds greatly to the high quality of life we all enjoy,” Robinson said. “From the new soccer fields and tennis courts, to the Fairhope pools, our bicycle and walking trails, the expansion and maintenance of these areas is paramount to the active, outdoor lifestyle of the Fairhope community.
“Fairhope is growing at a rapid pace because it is such an amazing place to live and work,” he said. “I think managing our growth to maintain the Fairhope we all love is a very important issue. Over the next few years we will see development of the triangle property, located behind Veteran’s Drive, which serves as the entrance to Fairhope. The opportunity to have preserved parkland with trails, is just incredible. It’s something I see my children and even my grandchildren enjoying in the future.”
Robinson and his family are members of Fairhope United Methodist Church. He is a member of Thomas Hospital’s Future Founders, serves on the City of Fairhope’s Planning and Zoning Commission and is an active member of the bay area’s legal community, serving on the Mobile Bar Executive Committee 2015 & Civil Practice Committee; Alabama Defense Lawyers Association Membership Committee and the Board of Directors of the Young Lawyers section.
“Part of what makes Fairhope so special, are the incredible volunteers around our town all the time,” Robinson said. “From dedicated school volunteers to those keeping trash from making its way into the bay on Fairhope Community clean up days, you don’t have to look hard to find volunteers wanting to serve. My wife and I are grateful to have the opportunity to be raising our children in a community of people always giving back and we want to be a part of that.”
