Band: Royal Horses
Date: Friday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m.
Venue: Big Beach Brewing, 300 E. 24th Ave. (Gulf Shores), bigbeachbrewing.com
Big Beach Brewing will start Mardi Gras weekend with a batch of Piney Woods jams from the heart of South Mississippi. Royal Horses has used its original rock mix of musical styles to quickly establish a dedicated following in Mobile and Baldwin counties.
Even though this band features a three-man lineup, Royal Horses has one of the most powerful sounds in the region. This group’s smooth roots rock thrives with versatile sonic attitude that makes instant fans out of unsuspecting audience members.
Royal Horses will have Big Beach moving and grooving to tracks from its vinyl exclusive debut on Okemah Roads Records, “A Modern Man’s Way to Improve.” Those unfamiliar with Royal Horses could not ask for a better representation of the band’s sound. “Leave a Light” is a rollicking Southern rock jam with a bluegrass edge. “Who Do You Know?” skirts the line between blues and punkabilly. Royal Horses’ tendency to flex in the live setting should make for a rowdy evening at Big Beach.
