The latest production for South of the Salt Line begins this week when “Ambushed by the Tea Party” opens at Mobile Theatre Guild in Midtown. This socio-political satire follows the antics of an eccentric Bayou la Batre political family and one high-profile member’s rumored gender-bending transgressions on the cusp of Election Day.
Playwright Tom Perez and director Daniel Mainwaring timed the production for the last weeks leading up to Alabama’s current statewide election since the work was inspired by events in the Mississippi gubernatorial race of 1983.
The opening night is a benefit for Joe Cain Foot Marchers so that the Mardi Gras event can stay free for the marching public.
Curtain is at 8 p.m. Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m.
