Sunday night will be the perfect time to relax in the tranquil environment of The Listening Room with singer-songwriter Melissa Summersell.
Summersell was still in her teens when she made her scene debut at The Flora-Bama. She also holds the honor of being a member of the late Hank Becker’s backing band, the Boogie Chillin’.
Now this talented songwriter is performing in support of her debut double album, “Bare & Fully Dressed.” While both albums have the same tracklist, Summersell provides listeners with both stripped-down and full-band versions of the songs.
She kept things local for this grand endeavor. “Bare” was recorded with Ray Norman at Dogwood Studios, while “Fully Dressed” was tracked with Anthony Crawford (Sugarcane Jane, Willie Sugarcapps) at his Admiral Bean Studio in Baldwin County.
Throughout both, Summersell’s vocals remain a welcome constant. Her angelic vocal style includes traces of heartbreak and soul that can’t be ignored. Her choice to provide two contexts for each song showcases respective musical personas with different attitudes and delivery.
Witnessing Summersell with her acoustic or a full band will provide the listener two separate, but equally satisfying, experiences.
