The city of Orange Beach and the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission will once again host the SEC Women’s Soccer Championship Nov. 2-8 at the Orange Beach Sportsplex. Earlier in 2015, the SEC and the city announced a contract extension.
“The Sports Commission is excited to welcome the SEC back to Alabama’s beaches for another year of thrilling match-ups,” Beth Gendler, vice president of sales for the Sports Commission, said. “Part of the SEC contract included the city upgrading its lighting at the sportsplex to meet high definition requirements, and Orange Beach has gone above and beyond to exceed those expectations. The upgrades will not only benefit the SEC, but will make hosting other major soccer tournaments possible.”
All first round, quarterfinal and semifinal matches will air live on the SEC Network. The championship match will air live on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. CST on ESPNU. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students and children for each game.
In addition to the championship, youth rec and club teams can get in on the action Nov. 6-8 during the Alabama Soccer Festival presented by Aloha Hospitality. Teams will compete in a soccer tournament and participate in other activities such as a skills competition and block party. Participants will also receive tickets to all SEC games.
Coaches will have the opportunity to receive a coaching certificate and may take part in a coaches’ social. The application deadline for teams is Friday, Oct. 23. Check outAlabamaSoccerFestival.com for more information.
