Band: Sloth Racer
Date: Friday, Sept. 20, at 8:30 p.m.
Venue: Traders on the Causeway, 4015 Battleship Pkwy., 251-626-5630
For decades, Traders on the Causeway has attracted regulars with its local attitude, scenic views and Long Island iced teas. On the weekends, Traders adds local sounds to its mix.
Sloth Racer’s show at Traders will be a great chance to experience an up-and-coming band in one of the area’s most infamous watering holes. Franklin Pratt (rhythm guitar, vocals), Reed Gilmore (lead guitar), Logan Reid (bass) and Jared Messinger (percussion) have pulled from rock and reggae influences to create an original collection of contemporary alt. rock tunes.
Last year, Sloth Racer released its first effort in the form of the “I’m Okay” EP. This four-song release is a versatile mix of tunes. “Runaways” is a smooth, clean delivery of alt. rock in the key of The Strokes. Sloth Racer counters this tune with the West Coast reggae sounds of “Try Again” before finishing the album with a double-shot of rock courtesy of the upbeat “Back In My Arms” and the heartfelt “Take Me Higher.”
