This summer is ALL about the ultimate detox!
I am not sure about you, but with COVID-19 going around on top of allergy season and the other illnesses that circulate during the summer, I am looking for any way to get all of those toxins out of my body.
If you are looking for a way to cleanse your body and take that extra step outside of exercise, here are a few simple ways to get a fresh start and rejuvenate your body in preparation for that new summer diet!
Also, a quick disclaimer: Your body is already fully equipped to eliminate toxins, but these suggestions will enhance your body’s natural detoxification system.
Give Sea Moss a Go
Sea moss has become the new thing for anyone in need of cleansing their body of any health issues and losing a little weight along the way. If you haven’t heard about it, sea moss is a type of algae that has been around for just about forever.
As it has gained popularity, manufacturers are offering it in several forms, including dried, ground, in pills or via droppers.
But if you are looking to buy some, be careful to do your research on if it is real or fake. A quick guide to spotting the difference: Fake or pool-grown sea moss often looks a little too perfect and it carries a look as though it has been covered in rock salt. Imitation sea moss is more common than you would think, so be sure to do all of your research, especially when purchasing online.
A few benefits of sea moss are strengthening bones, nails, skin and hair, boosting immunity, increasing energy, eliminating mucus, fighting aging, and some testimonies even go as far as lowering blood pressure. (Obviously consult your physician before getting off of any blood pressure medicines.) Sea moss is also great for gut health; it acts as a prebiotic and can further support digestion.
Several local shops and businesses carrying sea moss are Virginia Health Foods and Fairhope Health Foods if you are interested in pills and powder, and Facebook user @AskEbby_ if you are looking for gel or pills!
Try a Juice Cleanse
Juice cleanses have been known to wipe you out and give you a fresh start, regardless of whether you are looking to get a cleanse before a diet or just cleanse in general. Cleanses can do a variety of things depending on what you are looking for, but the main goal is to reset bad eating habits and eliminate cravings.
Most cleanses typically range from one to three days. I am sure you are skeptical about the taste, but one of my favorite places in Spanish Fort, Fresh Cafe, provides fresh and fruity flavors to keep you locked in and focused. Fresh Cafe also offers a variety of foods, smoothies and fresh-squeezed juices if you want to replace just one meal. To find out more information about their location and menu options, visit freshcafespanishfort.com.
More local spots to try for healthy food choices and juice cleanses are FOY Superfoods in Mobile (hfoysuperfoods.com) and Agape Juices in Foley (agape-juices.com).
Home Remedies
One of the easiest ways to start a detox is by starting in your own home, and it does not have to be complicated. A few quick, easy and success-proven detox methods I have tried and have seen positive change from are lemon water, ginger and green tea. All it takes is a grocery store run, boiling hot water and a good routine. You are guaranteed to see changes in a week!
Ionic Foot Detoxing
If you are looking to try something outside of the box, look no further than Peak Alkalinity. The shop specializes in alkaline water ionizers and what has become the newest trend: ionic foot detoxing! The ideal purpose of ionic foot detoxing is to pull the toxins out of your body through your feet — it basically acts as a magnet pulling all of the harmful metals from your bloodstream. The benefits of an ionic foot detox include balancing the body’s pH, reducing swelling, boosting mood, relieving stress, increasing immunity to illness, aiding weight loss and improving heart health!
In addition to foot detoxing, Peak Alkalinity offers other services such as an infrared sauna and oxygen bar — both are sure to leave you relaxed and detoxed. If you want to learn more about Peak Alkalinity, visit them at one of their two locations in Mobile or Fairhope or online at peakalkalinity.com.
The Quickest and Easiest Method
Sometimes the best way to start fresh is by keeping it simple, and for that all you really need is water and rest. With all the free time many of us have right now, there is no better time to refuel and regenerate so you are ready when things do return to “normal.” The best way to stay hydrated and feeling good is by drinking lots of water. Most studies suggest 64-96 ounces per day. (This depends on your gender, weight and other factors, so consult a health care professional to figure out your optimal amount.)
Once you are done drinking all of that water, stop for a minute and take a relaxing Epsom salt bath. If you throw a little lavender in there, you will be more than ready to wind down and sleep like a baby through the night.
