As Christmas draws closer, many may be looking for the perfect gift for that guitar enthusiast on their list. The Les Paul Foundation has an answer. Born Lester William Polsfuss, Les Paul has been called the “father of modern music.” This sonic genius was a forefather of the solid-body electric guitar.
With help from his wife Mary Ford, this talented musician brought the masses his trademark guitar sound with hits such as “How High the Moon” and “Vaya Con Dios.” Along the way, Paul brought his skills as an electric luthier to the doors of the Gibson Guitar Corporation. Together, they mass-produced the Gibson Les Paul model, one known for both its iconic body style and sound, which through the years has been embraced by guitarists ranging from Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) to Slash (Guns N’ Roses).
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Les Paul, the Les Paul Foundation is offering gifts perfect for fans of this legendary guitarist. The first is a $100 “holiday bundle,” which includes a limited edition 100th anniversary guitarist/inventor shirt in natural or tan, a copy of the coffee table book “Les Paul: In His Own Words” (regularly priced at $90) and a limited edition pack of medium-weight 100th anniversary guitar picks. For the same price, the Les Paul Foundation is also featuring a second holiday bundle that includes two copies of Paul’s book.
For those into vinyl, the Les Paul Foundation has also issued Les Paul and Mary Ford’s classic release, “Christmas Cheer.” This 10-inch is featured in red and green vinyl and includes the duo’s versions of Christmas favorites such as “Silent Night,” “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “White Christmas.” This album was initially released on Record Store Day. Since then, “Christmas Cheer” and the holiday bundles are available exclusively at www.les-paul.com.
