Umm, where did summer go? I swear it was just May, but yet it’s actually July. Every time I blink it’s a new month.

On top of everything going on, the folks at Lagniappe are running around preparing for the most wonderful time of the year, the Nappies!

Luckily, the Ol’ Boozester was able to catch her breath this past weekend with a calmer than normal weekend, though I fear it is the calm before the storm. Next weekend there is so much happening I’ve got to pick and choose my weekend activities. Ugh, how will I never choose? Anyway, here is a recap of weekend happenings.

Hometown fame
With everything going on over the Fourth of July weekend, Boozie forgot to tell y’all about the U.S. Olympic Trials in swimming. Alabama as a whole had quite a few standouts but Mobile was also well represented.

Will Glass, a McGill-Toolen graduate and now a swimmer for the University of Texas, advanced in trials to the final round where he swam against Michael Phelps in the 100-meter butterfly. Boozie can’t tell you much about swimming but I can tell you Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympian of all time! So way to go, Will, on giving Michael a run for his money!

Peace prevails
This past Friday night, organizers formed a peaceful protest at Cathedral Square against police brutality. While there had been rumors of people blocking the tunnel, Mayor Sandy Stimpson’s administration said this was not true. The peaceful protest went on as planned. There was not violence, but kindness.

One of Boozie’s spies reported a man was passing out water to protesters and people enjoying Art Walk. There was even a brass band. Boozie loves when she hears of people doing good things when there is so much hate being spread elsewhere. Just another reason of how we are still on the path to be One Mobile!

Brushes and Bubbly
This past Sunday, July 10, Lifelines Counseling Service hosted its first annual Brushes and Bubbly. The event was at Moe’s BBQ and Boozie hears it was a lot of fun. But hey, anything involving mimosas is always fun!

My spies they had a good turnout to raise money for the counseling service. Along with mimosas, ladies got to eat and paint an abstract painting to take home. While Boozie probably couldn’t do two of those things at the same time and still have a painting to take home, I was told the ladies all did a great job.

Boozie’s spies struggle sometimes more than Boozie does. Once one spy finally came home from a long vacay at la-la land, I mean the beach, she reported that she saw Ace Frehley!

This isn’t the first time the former lead guitarist and founding member of the rock band KISS was spotted at Caribe in Orange Beach. Almost a year ago, it was reported the metal guitarist was seen relaxing on the lazy river. No word if he was on the lazy river this time but if Boozie had to guess, I would say he probably floated on it a few times during his stay. How could he resist?

Well, kids, that’s all I’ve got this week. Just remember, whether rain or shine, dramatic or scandalous, or just some plain ol’ mimosa lovin’, I will be there. Ciao!
