Technically, summer vacation season ended Labor Day weekend. However, the beachside parties are far from over in Gulf Shores, especially at LuLu’s. This popular establishment will be keeping its patrons trop rockin’ into the fall months. Nothing maintains a summertime attitude more than the sounds of a trop-rock band such as Coconut Radio. As a regular visitor to LuLu’s, Coconut Radio captures its listening audience with its fresh take on the genre.
Coconut Radio has two self-released albums in its catalog, with “Gone Bamboo” the latest effort. The calypso-laden acoustic rock of the title track opens the album. Right away, listeners will be intrigued by violinist/vocalist Sue Kittredge’s plucky work on her instrument, which takes on the air of a steel drum. Kittredge and bandmate Steve Reeths regularly switch on vocals, giving this band two bright, sun-kissed faces. Coconut Radio’s set should be a great way to accent the audience’s sunset experience.
