When you think of Chickasaw, the Alps, Nazis and warbling nuns don’t necessarily come to mind but things can change. The little civic theatre troupe due north of downtown Mobile is bringing to life Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical and here’s a bonus, no Carrie Underwood.
Of course this story about a young governess named Maria who looks after the Von Trapp brood and wins the hearts of not just the kinder but their grizzled military father as well. The original Broadway production put several songs into the popular lexicon like “My Favorite Things” and “Do Re Mi,” but it was the 1965-film version with Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer that reached generations around the globe.
Friday and Saturday night shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinee is at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $15, $12 for seniors, students and active military. Cash and local cheks accepted.
