McDonald’s newest releases, from left: Tomato Mozzarella Chicken Sandwich, Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger, Stroopwafel McFlurry and Cheesy Bacon Fries
There was talk of an early May opening. But here we are in the middle, and as of this writing The Juicy Seafood has yet to open in the former Zea’s location at 4671 Airport Blvd. It is something to look forward to, though, with others in the chain seemingly appreciated. The closest one to us is in Montgomery, but they stretch as far as New York City!
The Cajun-influenced restaurant offers fried and steamed Southern favorites such as shrimp and crawfish as well as yankee fare in the form of clams and King crab legs. It should be a kid-friendly place with a full bar. I’ll let you know when the doors open.
Sylvia’s Biscuits + Poboys closing permanently
This week we found out via Facebook post that Sylvia’s Biscuits + Poboys located in Fort Condé was closing its doors. The news came Friday, roughly a week after its previous post.
“We are thrilled that the Gulf Coast Ducks are returning to the Port City! Due to this exciting news, we will be focusing all efforts on the Ducks re-launch and we will not be open for service. Thank you, Mobile!”
No word on if another restaurant is in the works or if the restaurant revival series will continue, but until something replaces it, Gulf Coast Ducks riders will have to walk about a block to enjoy any of our other wonderful downtown spots. I hear Royal Scam has some exciting menu changes in the works. I’m optimistic it will be good. Relentlessly optimistic.
Sabor a Mexico closes on Airport
It was a Mexican favorite for years, but Sabor a Mexico at 6800 Airport Blvd. between Hillcrest and Cody roads has closed. Just a few days after Cinco de Mayo, the restaurant ran out of food. We all have “our” Mexican restaurant. This one belonged to many. When I think of it, I fondly remember sombreros, margaritas and tacos. RIP Burrito Loco!
Roshell’s offering new payment options
I hope you’re sitting down for this one. Roshell’s Café & Deli is now accepting credit and debit cards! You no longer have to carry cash when you get that craving for a garlic cheese steer. Folks are saying this is the biggest news for Chrichton since the leprechaun. Known for its amazing burgers (steers), it may take a while for this to settle into the minds of cash-strapped fans. No worries, hungry citizens. There is new technology at 2906 Springhill Ave. where you can just charge it!
McDonald’s is bringing international hits to the states
Be on the lookout for some unfamiliar items coming to McDonald’s. Borrowing from some of its other menus across the globe, the fast food giant is introducing us to four new items at participating McDonald’s nationwide starting June 5.
Stroopwafel McFlurry, the Grand McExtreme Bacon Burger, and the Tomato Mozzarella Chicken Sandwich sound McDelicious, but you’re really lining up for the Cheesy Bacon Fries. All are for a limited time. Let’s see what sticks.
