The practice moved to West Mobile in 1987 and the new facility is anticipated to open in the summer of 2020.

Portal Insurance earns regional award
Saraland-based Portal Insurance was recently recognized with the 2019 regional Agent for the Future award from Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance.
The 107-year-old, Boston-headquartered global insurer’s annual accolade recognizes independent agencies across the country that are reportedly adapting to meet the changing needs of customers, as well as driving the independent agent channel forward in the realms of innovation, growth and advancement.
“Portal Insurance is pleased to be honored with the Agent for the Future award from Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance. We are excited that our focus on growth and change is being recognized,” Portal Insurance owner Bradley Flowers said.
As part of design, some $5,000 in proceeds from the award are distributed out to a local area nonprofit selected by the award’s recipient. Flowers picked Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Alabama (BBBSSA).
“I chose them because I love their mission and what they do for young kids who might not have a mentor,” Flowers said. “At Portal Insurance, our purpose is to empower and impact people. That’s why this donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Alabama makes so much sense; we can impact lives for generations to come.”
“Much like the purpose of the Agent for the Future award, Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Alabama is committed to creating partnerships that will enable our ‘Littles’ to thrive now and into the future,” Aimee Risser, CEO of BBBSSA, said. “Thanks to this generous award from Bradley Flowers, these funds will enable our agency to continue to grow and advance our mission to serve the youth across South Alabama.”
On a side note, Flowers is also co-host (along with Huntsville-based insurance agent Scott Howell) of “The Insurance Guys” podcast, produced locally out of Deep Fried Studios inside the Container Yard coworking site at 853 Dauphin St. in Downtown Mobile.
The weekly production is promoted as one of the most-followed shows of its kind (based on downloads) in the insurance industry vertical. Recently, it featured New York Times best-selling author and internet personality Gary Vaynerchuk on an episode. The podcast currently can be found on iTunes.
