Yippee! We made it, y’all!
This horrible, miserable year is almost over. And even though I know we aren’t done with COVID-19, I still feel like it’s the beginning of the end, so I’ll take it. And I need it. Because trying to gather gossip in a pandemic where crowds and close contact drunken shenanigans are discouraged ain’t easy.
So thanks for sticking with me through this rather boring year (as far as gossip goes anyway), and here’s to the tastiest year ever in 2021! You know it’s going to be wild when everyone gets out of the house again. I am kind of scared.
But let’s close this hell year out now with last week’s craziness! Go on, get!
A Mobile teenager went “viral” for all the wrong reasons after slamming into at least two parked cars at the Semmes Walmart on Schillinger last week. The video, which started on TikTok, has made its way to other sites like Old Row and Barstool Sports, garnering millions of views.
In the video, the young man is seen talking to the owner of the parked car he hit first. He tells her it is his mom’s car, and she promptly tells him he needs to call her. As he looks like he is about to do just that, he jumps in the car and attempts to drive away. But immediately runs into another truck. He then runs away. Thankfully, no one was injured.
According to media reports, he was not arrested as it was on private property, and it will be sorted out through Mom’s insurance. And I am sure Mom will be administering justice herself.
But strangely, in addition to the multiple hit and runs, what seemed to get the most comments were the guy’s shoes — some sort of camouflage “Jesus sandal” situation. You just never know what’s going to capture the attention of the citizens of cyberworld.
Strange tales from the MPD blotter
The following is a list of some of the stranger incidents taken from Mobile Police Department reports in the last week. As always, presented without names or comment ….

Suspicious Circumstances, Assault 2nd
On Sunday, Dec. 27 at approximately 1 a.m., police responded to the hospital in reference to one shot with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim stated he was downtown at a party when he was shot. The victim said he did not know the location of the party or anyone at the party. Well, kids, that’s all I got this week. Have a safe and happy New Year! Make sure to eat like five extra helpings of black-eyed peas. And just remember, whether rain or shine, dramatic or scandalous, or some plain ol’ local TikTok lovin’, I will be there. Ciao!
