The Mobile skyline appeared on last week’s episode of of the show, “Veep.”
Mullets were tossed and sported. Spring breaks sprang and sprung.
Damn it! The party’s over.
Or has it only just begun?
No, now it’s just time for it to get ass-hot for five months. But hey, that’s what the beach and day drinking is for. Plus, heat makes people crazy and that comes in handy for a gossip columnist like myself. Just sayin…
Anyway, let’s get to it before I start to melt and get drunk. Not necessarily in that order.
The tossing of mullet (and standards)
The 2019 Interstate Mullet Toss took place at the world famous Flora-Bama last weekend and like always people drank way too much, wore highly inappropriate swimsuits, engaged in unfortunate public displays of affection and, of course, tossed dead fish across the state line. In other words, a good time was had by all!
My spies said the award for best dressed was a very, um, robust, gentleman who was sporting a hula skirt and also a small shirt draped over his very large belly with a painting of a very nice man’s six pack on it. Sweet!
Of course there were the standard American and Confederate flag bikinis and banana hammocks.
During the male hot body contest, my spy was particularly impressed by a gentleman sporting a denim weenie bikini and said the stuffing of said “wiener bikeiners” by all was very rampant and very evident.
No word yet on how many children were conceived last weekend, but Mullet is a great name for a boy. Or girl. Hey Mully Ann!
Our spies also hear Kenny Chesney was spotted singing some songs on the stage inside. He was in town for a concert at The Amphitheater at The Wharf and was apparently lured to the Flora-Bama by the stench of dead mullet.
Stokes kills it on “The Voice”
Grand Bay’s Rod Stokes was back on NBC’s “The Voice” Monday night and absolutely killed it with his version of the Allman Brothers’ hit “Midnight Rider” as the top 24 performed. But will it be enough, as 11 contestants will be eliminated on Tuesday night to leave the Top 13? At press time, we did not have the results, but whatever the case, Rod has shined! Go Rod!
Mobile skyline makes episode of “Veep”
On the Sunday night episode of the HBO hit show “Veep” the Mobile skyline got a starring role, playing the part of “Selina Meyer for President: Alabama Campaign Office.”
Selina Meyer is a character played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who has won multiple Emmys for the role. Meyer is an absolutely “reprehensible” human who is always running for one office or another. This season she is running for president.
It is one of the funniest but raunchiest shows on HBO – nothing is off limits – but that may be why politicians often say it’s one of the most accurate representations of how things really are inside the Beltway. I definitely believe that!
Anyway, glad they chose our skyline over smug Birmingham’s. You know the ‘Hammers were all saying on Monday, “Like they would have really put that office in Mobile.”
Well they did on “Veep,” so suck it ‘Ham!
Well kids, that’s all I got this week. Just remember, whether rain or shine, dramatic or scandalous, or some plain ol’ unwanted Mullet Toss pregnancies, I will be there. Ciao!
