Cannabis culture reserves April 20 as a day of celebration for one of the world’s most infamous plants. However, CannaBama hopes the inaugural 420 Bienville Square will take some of the infamy away from society’s perception of marijuana. 420 Bienville Square’s mission is to promote the legalization and normalization of cannabis use in Alabama. This family- and dog-friendly event promises to “educate, advocate, unify and celebrate” cannabis in all its forms and uses. In addition to guest speakers, art, food and giveaways, 420 Bienville Square will feature musical performances from five local acts.
Fresh from the band’s SouthSounds debut, Red & the Revelers will bring the band’s eclectic jams to 420 Bienville Square. In addition to new tracks from the band’s upcoming sophomore effort, the cannabis-infused anthem “Rainy Day Suggestion” should be a hit with the crowd.
Hop-hop artist Big Lex will add her intricate flow and precocious wordplay to the lineup. Ballastella will bring cuts of funky indie rock from the band’s debut album, “Here.”
Local rapper J.Haynes will have verse after verse of enlightened rhythms and rhymes. Taqi Ali completes the lineup for 420 Bienville. Ali’s electrified violin should be a fresh dose of modern sound from this classical instrument.
