School is back in session. Yay for parents but long sigh for me.
Does that mean summer is over? No, no, no, I just can’t believe that could possibly be true. I haven’t even lost the weight I planned on to get in the bikini I never took the tags off of. Something is just not right in the space-time continuum.
I can tell it’s definitely the dog days of summer though, as the gossip well has been rather dry of late. But I did manage to get you a couple of little sips to hold you over until football season begins – aka prime fall gossip season.
Vandals with a green thumb
Last week, Todd Henson, the owner of Café 219 on the corner on Conti and Joachim, went out to water some plants he had recently planted in the sidewalk beds in front of his downtown restaurant. Much to his dismay, they were gone.
Upon reviewing his surveillance footage, he discovered some “a-holes” leaving Gabriel’s at 3:15 a.m. were the culprits. For whatever reason (probably alcohol), two guys decided to pull up these plants and start running (maybe they confused them for a different type of plant?).
Anyway, through the magic of social media and Mobile being America’s largest small town, the perps were soon identified and Henson was ready to call the cops. But in an unexpected twist, the unidentified vandals called him, expressed remorse and came back and made the beds better than they were before.
I am certain this is the “feel good” vandalism story of the year.
Idol auditions this month
Just another reminder: “American Idol” will be holding auditions in the Port City on Tuesday, Aug. 20. Though host Ryan Seacrest had not renewed his contract at press time, judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan will return. Does that mean the trio will be in Mob-town in a couple of weeks? Who knows but certainly Lionel would want to show his fellow judges around his home state, right?
You can find more info on how to sign up for the auditions on the “American Idol” website.
Speaking of dog days
My spies are barking and howling there will be a dog show at The Grounds, Sept 4-8. Forty-seven breeds from 43 states will compete to see who will be named “Best in Show.” Boozie can’t help but think of the Christopher Guest “mockumentary” also titled “Best in Show.” Certainly it’s not nearly as dramatic or cutthroat as that work of fiction, but if it’s anything even close, the people watching may be as interesting as watching the pups.
Sounds like a fun event!
Well, I told you the pickings were slim this week and I never tell a lie (just mild fabrications). Anyway, just remember, whether rain or shine, dramatic or scandalous or some plain ol’ vandals doin’ right lovin’, I will be there. Ciao!
