Police have identified two victims that were killed in a murder-suicide on Monday morning — an incident authorities say may have stemmed from an ongoing divorce.
As officers from several agencies arrived in the Carriage Hills neighborhood on Monday, they entered a home on Old Dobbin Drive to find Leo Jones Jr., 44, and Denisha Jones, 41, deceased inside.
Monday, officers said a 911 call reporting gunshots brought the situation to their attention at approximately 9 a.m., but family members on the scene said they had also received calls from one of two victims before the shooting began.
According a spokesperson with the Mobile Police Department, Denisha Jones was found with multiple gunshot wounds and Leo Jones Jr. was killed by a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Details were few as the events unfolded, but the MPD confirmed shortly after the shooting that it was “domestic related”and the couple’s 7-year-old daughter was at the home when the incident occurred but was not injured.
On Tuesday, police expanded on those comments, adding that their investigation revealed the couple had been “separated and going through a bitter divorce.”
