One of Hangout Fest’s headliners will not be making it to Gulf Shores as scheduled Friday night. After suffering a vocal chord injury at a recent concert in Sydney, Australia, soulful crooner Sam Smith continued to have difficulties hindering subsequent performances. According to the website Consequence of Sound, Smith sought medical attention in the United States and learned he will have to undergo suspension microlaryngoscopy surgery. Smith released a statement last week apologizing and giving fans a few details concerning his condition and upcoming shows.
“I am going to need surgery,” Smith wrote. “I’m so gutted to be missing all the shows and events I was meant to be playing at. The doctors say that I will be back in six to eight weeks, and I cannot wait to sing for you all soon.”
Luckily, Hangout Fest organizers were able to compensate for Sam Smith’s absence. Diplo and Skrillex are coming a little earlier! Jack Ü will be headlining in the Boom Boom Tent on Friday night! Skrillex will return for his regularly scheduled performance on the Surf Stage Saturday night and Diplo will perform as Major Lazer in the Boom Boom Tent afterward.
