Houston’s Wild Moccasins will be bringing a fresh batch of jangle pop to the Azalea City. This group began to take shape in 2007 as an acoustic duo comprised of lead vocalist Zaharia Gutierrez and guitarist Cody Swann. It did not take long for this duo to evolve into a quintet featuring guitarist Andrew Lee, bassist Nicholas Cody and drummer Justin Martinez. Wild Moccasins released two EP’s and gave a successful performance at SXSW before releasing their full-length debut “Skin Collision Past.”

Currently, Wild Moccasins is preparing for both the release of their sophomore effort “89 92” on Feb. 4 and a string of opening dates for Of Montreal. Mobile will likely get a proper preview of the new material. Until then, the band has released the album’s first single “Gag Reflections.” This track reflects the beautiful complexity of their sound. Gutierrez’s unblemished vocals are placed on a sonic foundation that hybridizes old school new wave, shoegaze and modern indie rock.
