New Year’s Eve is looking good, food wise, no matter where you are. There are specials all over. In West Mobile, Pour Baby is pulling out all the stops with their “Pouring ’20s” party beginning at 9 p.m. The pours will be bottomless Champagne and beer. Hors d’oeuvre and dessert stations will be readily available and live music will fill the air. Tickets are limited, at $125 per person. Call Pour Baby at 251-343-3555 or its market, à la cork, at 251-652-3950.
Post is offering a gourmet buffet catering to the downtown crowd. Premium tickets are $100 with house liquor, wine and beer flowing all night, while the Specialty ticket adds a special cocktail menu for $150. Both include the Champagne fountain, of course. Limited to the first 100 guests, be sure to get there early. Tickets are sold through Eventbrite.com, but purchase of a ticket does not guarantee a seat.
Further downtown, The Royal Scam is hosting a prix fixe menu at the corner of Government and Royal. The first course is a choice of lobster ravioli, foie gras or sausage-stuffed criminis. Course two could be their heralded seafood gumbo, a field green salad or artichoke Gruyère and crispy pancetta soup. The main course, of course, includes their filet mignon with crawfish oscar, Aligot potatoes and asparagus, versus the crispy seared halibut with orzo, truffle spaghetti squash and crabmeat beurre blanc, or the airline chicken with mozzarella, prosciutto, creamy mascarpone polenta, fried brussels and bacon jam. The final jam is deciding between the raspberry crème brûlée or the chocolate tart. Choose your destiny for $65 per person. Make a reservation by calling 251-432-7226.
Across the bay, Point Clear’s Grand Hotel kicks the party off at 8:30 p.m. with a reception-style buffet, live entertainment, light late-night food, party favors and a Champagne toast at midnight. The Dinner and Entertainment package ($155) also includes vouchers for two drinks. A cash bar is available. The Dinner, Drinks and Entertainment package ($214.52) adds a beverage wristband that keeps the liquid courage flowing throughout the event.
Wherever you go, play it safe and Uber or taxi.
Applebee’s returns to Mobile with first Applebee’s Express
Hard to believe we didn’t have an Applebee’s, but now they’re back with a new concept. The Applebee’s Express (no, not the train) is a fast-casual concept located inside the Shoppes of Westgate at 7450 Airport Blvd. What’s the difference? At this fast-casual restaurant, guests order at the counter, then enjoy their meal on the go or in one of the 72 seats in this 2,500-square-foot facility. There is even Applebee’s delivery!
To order that quesadilla burger, riblets or other Applebee’s exclusives on the go, for pickup or delivery, visit applebees.com or download the app. The restaurant is currently open, but a grand opening will be held at a later date.
