World-renowned BBQ pitmaster Chris Lilly (top) and Aaron Sanchez of “Master Chef” fame will be at Oyster Cook-off.
It’s been a week, y’all, but at least it kind of feels like fall. I guess. I mean it is October, and I’ve seen some mums and Halloween decorations out so it must be. I’m not breaking out the sweaters just yet.
But anyway, I have harvested up as much gossip as I could find for you freaks and ghouls, so enjoy this (sort of) fall bounty! It’s pumpkin-spiced!
Fair-weather friend of the day?
As many TV stations across the country also do, WPMI does a cute segment each day where they feature their “Facebook Friend of the Day,” and give them some sort of prize for being one of their Facebook followers. Obviously, it’s just a way to try and get more social media followers for the station’s page.
On Tuesday, Oct. 8, they announced their friend was “Janet C.” and shared her profile photo. “Janet C.” looked very sweet, but our spies quickly noticed that you can see her TV reflected in a framed picture in the background, and it is tuned to FOX 10, where you can clearly see WALA Chief Meteorologist Jason Smith doing the weather.
I don’t know why, but this really made me giggle.
I guess we can probably blame this local news adultery on DirecTV for now! But WPMI, you better get Greg Peterson over there pronto to win Janet C. back!
“Master Chef” star coming to Hangout Oyster Cook-Off
Attention, foodies! If you haven’t been to the Oyster Cook-Off Craft Spirits & Beer Weekend at the Hangout in Gulf Shores yet, you are really missing out on one of our area’s best food festivals. The oysters are creatively presented in a variety of ways on the half shell, and they are nothing short of spectacular. The Champagne and craft beers are always flowing and it’s really a great time.
And now they are doing something new this year by bringing in one of the stars of FOX’s hit show “Master Chef,” Aarón Sánchez, along with world champion BBQ pitmaster Chris Lilly for an exclusive dinner.
“A limited number of tickets are on sale for Pitmaster & Pappy, an exclusive Hangout Cook-Off event with Chris Lilly and Aarón Sánchez. Together, the two chefs will create a world class BBQ menu paired with rare bourbons and wine, including the elusive Pappy Van Winkle bourbon, considered by many to be the best bourbon on the planet. Get your tickets now for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity happening Friday, Nov. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m.,” according to a press release.

Little pink cannons for you and me!
The iconic cannon at the Loop in Midtown has been painted many colors over the years. Usually it is coated in a local high school team’s colors after a big win in a rivalry football game, but some well-meaning, boob-loving vandals painted it pink recently in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and decorated it with a line of brassieres. This was done specifically for the fundraiser “Bras Across the CAUSEway,” which helps cover living expenses for men and women who are being treated at The Breast Center at Providence Hospital. The event includes a 5K and 1K Fun Run and will be held on Oct. 12 at Meaher State Park. For more information, check out their Facebook page.
Well kids, that’s all I got this week. Just remember, whether rain or shine dramatic or scandalous, or some plain ol’ “Facebook friend” of the day lovin’, I will be there. Ciao!
